Some of the features in Vivian Ziersch's painting are obvious. The rose arbour, the stone arch of the cellar, the corrugated iron verandah of one of the cottages. More obscure are the negative image of the moon and its reflection in the dam. Some are positively cryptic. Take the reverse comma type form in the lower third, which is quite a true representation of our roadway entrance - but only when viewed from the Quarry Hill lookout about 2 km away.
Our most recent survey of customers at cellar-door sampled 426 visitors. A few facts to emerge.
81% stayed at least one night in the Clare-Burra region.
78% were South Australians.
23% had visited us before.
98% agreed that we banned smoking, however within this group, 14%, without being asked, were highly enthusiastic in their support.
95% agreed that asking customers to complete a survey form was a fair thing.
